Victor travels to Scotland with Clerval, then isolates himself on a barren island in the Orkneys. In a crude laboratory, he begins the grotesque work again—assembling a female creature. The work sickens him more than before. One night, through the window, he sees the creature's face watching eagerly, waiting for his companion.
